NAF08 photoshoot: Behind the scenes

Publicity photoshoot for NUS Arts Festival(NAF)2008
Nov 2007

I'm sure almost everyone on campus have seen our NAF publicity banners and images.

This year's Festival has a unique medical focus and some programmes marry Arts + Medicine. Hence, our publicity materials featured poses of "doctors", "nurses" and "patients" for the music, dance, films and literary arts segments!

These models are actually our very own CFA group members. Let's find out more about our volunteer models and take a peek at some photos taken during the photoshoot that have never been released before!

NAF08 - Cover Model Model: Felipe from NUS Choir
Almost like the "spokesman" for NAF 08, the above image has been seen EVERYWHERE - festival guide cover, artzone cover, huge banners, lamp-post flags, UCC glass door label...
Felipe just joined the Choir this academic year as an exchange student (post-graduate).

"When it first appeared as the Artzone cover, I was like 'WAHO, this is me!'. Then, every friend started asking me, 'Is that really you?' And then finally, I had weird gazes from other students when I was just simply waiting for shuttle buses, with lamp-post flags of my image right above me. What a wonderful surprise I had during this one year in NUS!" - Felipe

Second model for the "spokesman" cover: Koustav from NUS Dance Ensemble

I'm sure the photo was taken only after he posed for other images (Under "Screenings" and "Lifestyle Workshops", scroll down) and that's why he looked so tired. Now he knowa that it is not entirely comfortable wearing all these masks, gloves and gowns!

Third model for the "spokesman" cover: Kurien from NUS Choir

Chris the photographer kept telling Kurien "Please don't laugh... stay still", while he himself was laughing because of the amusing scene - Doctor holding an iron.

Let me tell you why. We wanted him to hold a real defibrillator - but alas, the mobile defibrillator was not suitable. So... we thought that he could hold an iron, and we insert the real defibrillator in photoshop. And, ya... you know this plan has failed unfortunately!

NAF08 - Model for Music

Model: Natalie from NUS Choir
Almost all GM staff know Natalie - she has one of the sweetest smiles and she is ALWAYS smiling! So, there she was, smiling away throughout the whole photoshoot!

Also take note that the stethoscope has an engraved name as she borrowed it from friend who will soon be a doctor.

NAF08 - Models for Dance

Models: Dance Blast!
It was clear from their trademark moves that they are our hip-hop dance group!

Unofficial model for dance: William from NUS Dance Synergy
While he was all dressed up, awaiting his turn to be the doctor cum painter, he did some moves which almost made him the model for dance, too!
Click on the above image to see his move in .GIF format!

NAF08 - Models for Literary
Models: NUS Dance Synergy and NUS Ilsa Tari
Both "nurses" and "patients" seemed to be very interested in the book which the "doctor" was holding...

And now we know why this shoot was not in NAF publicity materials - the pair on the left had very different expressions from the pair on the right!

NAF08 - Visual Arts
Model: William from NUS Dance Synergy
Maybe he is a day-time doctor, a night-time dancer and a weekend painter!

A raw image taken during the photoshoot
I remember that he did not move a single inch when the photographer started snapping photos; and therefore I could not find any raw images that were not up to standard.

NAF08 - Screenings
Model: Koustav from NUS Dance Ensemble
A good actor indeed! No one could tell that he was actually only looking into emptiness...

Second Model for "Screenings": Yi Lynn from NUS Dance Synergy
Everyone could tell from this image that she is a dancer! Too bad that the camera covered her face - she is actually a beautiful girl!

NAF08 - Lifestyle Workshops Model: Nadiah from NUS Ilsa Tari (Front); Koustav from NUS Dance Ensemble (Back)
Koustav actually did three poses for this photoshoot. No wonder he looked stern during the pose for the NAF cover page.
Nadiah would be a good model for advertising healthy teeth, healthy lifestyle for the National Health Board!

A final cute shot!
